What is the cost of a transit priority signal?

Transit Signal Priority (TSP) reduces the amount of time a transit vehicle spends waiting at a red light by adjusting the timing of a traffic signal’s red and green cycles. TSP works by making minor alternations to the traffic signal cycle or correcting the presence of approaching transit vehicles. It can either shorten red times so a stopped vehicle can move again or extend green times so an approaching transit vehicle can cross through without stopping. TSP helps in providing much more reliable and faster transit service and is quite convenient for any street-running transit vehicles, including buses, light rail, and streetcars. Signal priority rules depend on the objective of the TSP system that is agreed upon by both the transit agency and the signal operations agency.
